It’s that time of year!   PANTONE has announced its 2012 Color of the Year: PANTONE 17-1436
Tangerine Tango.  Continuing on from the uplifting qualities of last year’s color, Honeysuckle, Tangerine
Tango is an energetic and encouraging color.  Pantone has also now partnered with Sephora to bring out a
“Color of the Year” beauty palette sometime in March.

Just a few of the books on my list this year.  Make sure to especially check out Mountain by client
Sandy Hill.  Absolutely Stunning! You can also watch a short video on the book, narrated by Sandy here.

I absolutely adore the cover of Angus & Julia Stone’s album down the way (designed by the artists
themselves).  The fonts, the beach, the simplicity, and especially the color treatment.  There are many ways
to achieve this look (desaturated split tone with much less saturation in the shadows), but one thing that
takes this a step further is the slight marbling texture applied over the image.  This can be achieved by
placing a texture over the image and setting the layer to the soft light blend mode and lowering the opacity.

Dior has posted some behind the scenes images of their Miss Dior Cherie campaign shot by the fabulous
Tim Walker.  The commercial was directed by Sophia Coppola who also directed the 2008 campaign, which
is still one of my favorite commercials.  See more behind the scenes images here.

Need a creativity boost?  Studies have found blue to be the hue of creativity.  It is thought that our
association of openness, peace, and tranquillity with the ocean, sky, and water allows us to feel safe and
exploratory when creating.  Furthering the argument how “necessary” beach days are:))

Photoshop, client, deadline stress?  Here’s a little tip to help you chill out and look better.  Research has shown
that exercise can not only help the brain manage stress but it can also combat the accelerated aging process
stress produces on our bodies.

Sometimes people enter your life and you just know they were meant to teach you something.  Hollye
Harrington Jacobs has been that person for me.  Author of the Brookside Buzz blog, Hollye documents her
journey with breast cancer with wit, humor and style, always finding the “silver lining” in everything.
A true person seeing beauty and creating beauty.

I’m loving the cover image on the new Serena & Lily catalog.  The pinks, browns, and orange with a splash
of green … and here they are again on the cover of the Mark Rothko book I’ve been coveting.  Coincidence?

If you like putting palettes together, check out Color Lovers or the Kuler function in Photoshop
(Window > Extensions > Kuler).

Need a creative gift idea?  This is a Polaroid camera I created out of corkboard pieces.  I got the idea from
Anthropologie display coordinator Ruthi Auda.  A few pieces of cork, an exacto knife, super glue, and
you are all set!  Luckily I have a nice stockpile of Polaroids, but if you need to create one,
give these actions a try.

I’m a big believer that the environment you create in is an important element in the creative process, so I’m
always curious to see how other creative people work, especially those I admire.  This is the workspace of
one of my favorite designers Isabel Marant.   Her studio mirrors her relaxed, sexy, artistic pieces beautifully!

Featured on Bump Smitten today, images from my amazing and talented friend Meg Fish’s baby shower.
I also had so much fun designing and hosting this shower.  Meg and I share the same birthday as well as
a love for all things white and beautiful.  See some of Meg’s gorgeous work here and the darling Ella.

One of my favorite things about Adobe Photoshop is that you never really stop learning the program.  It
was comforting to hear an architect at Adobe recently say that at some point he has heard everyone
(including Thomas Knoll) say “I didn’t know you could do that.”  So even the people building the program
learn new things.  Just a little something to remember if you ever feel overwhelmed.

There is never a lack of inspiration in Elle Decor.  This home featured in the February/March issue  (shot
by the amazing Simon Upton) literally took my breath away.  It is indeed a home for someone living the life
of a “high-style nomad.”  The decor, the photography, the colors . . beautiful!
-

A nice way to boost the colors in an image subtly is to add “vibrance”.  Because it is a non-linear adjustment,
it will affect the more saturated colors first, leaving the less saturated colors alone.
