Sunday I signed off on Arna Bee’s graduation image submissions and was given this print as a ”thank
you.” Can it be anymore me? Having Arna as a student these past 3 years has been an absolute delight
and with all the inspriation I get from my students I often feel I should be the one saying thank you.
(Keep your eye out for Arna, I have a feeling we will be seeing amazing things from her!)

I have a design crush and her name is Kelly Wearstler. Kelly is such an inspiring artist where her
aesthetic moves effortlessly between the world of interior, fashion, and her own personal design.
Check out an image of Kelly hand-painting some of the fabric from her line. Her blog is also a daily read.
You can create the look of these lose lines in Photoshop by using the brush palette. Make sure to
experiment with different shape dynamics, scattering, and dual brush options.

What a lovely mix of old and new! Described as the most “un-Apple” Apple store, the Apple Store Paris
reminds me of the entrance to the Cota St. campus at Brooks Institute where I teach a number of post
production classes. It’s a beautiful setting to walk into each day!

It’s that time of year! PANTONE has announced its 2012 Color of the Year: PANTONE 17-1436
Tangerine Tango. Continuing on from the uplifting qualities of last year’s color, Honeysuckle, Tangerine
Tango is an energetic and encouraging color. Pantone has also now partnered with Sephora to bring out a
“Color of the Year” beauty palette sometime in March.

Just a few of the books on my list this year. Make sure to especially check out Mountain by client
Sandy Hill. Absolutely Stunning! You can also watch a short video on the book, narrated by Sandy here.

I absolutely adore the cover of Angus & Julia Stone’s album down the way (designed by the artists
themselves). The fonts, the beach, the simplicity, and especially the color treatment. There are many ways
to achieve this look (desaturated split tone with much less saturation in the shadows), but one thing that
takes this a step further is the slight marbling texture applied over the image. This can be achieved by
placing a texture over the image and setting the layer to the soft light blend mode and lowering the opacity.

Dior has posted some behind the scenes images of their Miss Dior Cherie campaign shot by the fabulous
Tim Walker. The commercial was directed by Sophia Coppola who also directed the 2008 campaign, which
is still one of my favorite commercials. See more behind the scenes images here.
